Antas is a magazine about the things people make and the care with which they keep them. We write about music, visual arts, literature, theatre, film, and cultural heritage — the whole field of serious cultural work, wherever in the world it is happening. We have no advertising, no sponsors, and no agenda beyond the conviction that art rewards attention and that good criticism is itself a form of attention paid out loud.
The name comes from the antas of Sardinia — the Nuragic temples raised on the island three thousand years ago, sacred structures set where landscape and human ritual meet. We chose it because that meeting point is, in a sense, our subject: the place where a painting, a piece of music, a building, or a book stops being mere material and becomes something a culture decides to hold on to. An anta is a threshold as much as a temple, and a magazine, at its best, is a threshold too.
We publish slowly and deliberately, in the belief that the alternative to the accelerated, half-attentive culture around us is not nostalgia but patience.
The magazine is organised into six sections. Music covers composition and performance across traditions. Visual Arts runs from painting and photography to the questions of the gallery and the market. Literature attends especially to fiction, poetry, and the art of translation. Theatre & Film takes in stage and screen, from the avant-garde to the popular. Heritage follows the long, often invisible labour of preserving what earlier generations made — frescoes, caves, archives, and the living traditions that resist being filed away. Cultural Events covers festivals, biennials, exhibition openings, and the calendar of arts life.
About the Publication
The editorial team is a small international group of writers and critics with backgrounds in art history, music, literary translation, archaeology, and film criticism. We attribute work to the publication rather than to individuals because the site is intended as a long-term editorial reference rather than a personal-byline platform.
A Note on the Domain and the Earlier ANTAS Magazine
This site uses the antas.info domain and the “Antas” brand previously associated with an Italian-language arts magazine published by PTM Editrice in Mogoro, Sardinia (2013–2021). When that magazine ceased publication and the domain became available, we acquired it in 2026 and relaunched as the English-language editorial publication you are reading now.
We are a separate editorial publication continuing the magazine’s commitment to long-form cultural criticism. The legacy Italian-language archive of approximately 95 articles from the 2013–2021 era is preserved on this site as a record of the earlier work. New editorial appears only in English.
